The olive grove was planted in 2003 and contains just over 1000 trees made up of three different cultivars – Frantoio ( Italian origin) Mission (American origin) and Manzanilla (Spanish origin). In 2018 we added 500, 2 year old trees of the cultivar Coratina (Italian Origin) and in 2019 we have added another 850 Frantoio trees, so our little grove of 1000 trees is now almost 2500!
Planted in a favourable clay /shale combination on a sloping hillside location, watered and irrigated with water from the Langeberg Mountains, the Galenia olive trees are much admired for their health as well as their production of olives for oil and table olives.
The olives are handpicked, pressed and processed on the estate within a day of picking – in fact many are pressed within a couple of hours of being picked. This produces an Extra Virgin Olive Oil of exceptional quality which is then blended together to make the Estate’s and Director’s Blends and depending on flavour, sometimes a premium single cultivar oil.
The Extra Virgin Olive Oils and processed table olives and tapenades are available for sale on the estate.
