Our Story

Where Refined Comfort
Meets Wild Nature

Welcome to Galenia — our 550-hectare estate on the famous Route 62 in the Klein Karoo, one of the most scenically beautiful areas of the Western Cape. Originally known as Boontjiesrivier (Little Bean River), this was the first estate settled in the Montagu area, long before Cogman's Kloof pass was blasted out in 1877.

After years of neglect, the estate was rescued in 2002 by Eric and Myriam Brillant, who planted the first 1 100 olive trees and built the guest house. Today, under the Bailey family, Galenia continues to grow — with over 2 400 olive trees and nature as its centrepiece.

The Estate House

A masterful reinvention of one of the estate's original barns — the heart of Galenia and the warm hospitality centre where every guest feels genuinely at home.

Cape Dutch Heritage

A Barn Reborn as
a Country Home

The Estate House was born from the renovation of one of the original farm barns. Its contemporary Cape Dutch design incorporates the timeless features of a lang skuur — a soaring ceiling of whole tree trunks, gabled windows, and a deep stoep that frames sweeping views across the olive groves, the dam, and the Langeberg Mountains beyond.

Set out as a spacious and comfortable sitting room with a glass-enclosed dining stoep, the Estate House is where guests truly feel at home — cared for by our willing, friendly and well-trained host family.

Estate Olive Oil

Award-Winning
Olive Oil

Galenia is an olive farm nestled close to the Langeberg Mountains in the Karoo. The first 1 100 trees were planted in 2003; after the 2018 wildfire a further 500 Coratina trees were added, followed by 850 Frantoio trees in 2019 — bringing the estate to over 2 400 trees across four cultivars. Olives are hand-picked and pressed on the estate within 24 hours of harvest.

Frantoio (Italian) — oil, sharp flavour
Mission (American) — oil & table olives
Manzanilla (Spanish) — green table olives
Coratina (Italian) — oil, intensely fruity
